Don Avondolio

Born in Philadelphia in 1934 and a graduate of Haaren HS (with additional courses in several colleges), Don eventually settled in East Northport Long Island in New York with his wife Anne where he had a 29 year career in aviation and raised 5 children. An avid fly fisherman, he was an active member of and at times president of, the Salty Flyrodders of New York.

Retiring in 1994, Don and Anne moved south to Delaware in 1999 where he began to make inquiries with local tackle shops and fishermen about fly fishing in Delaware. Subsequently he began to advertise that a new saltwater fly fishing club was forming in Delaware and a dedicated core group of fly anglers responded. The Saltwater Fly Anglers Of Delaware had its first meeting in early 2000 and has had, over the course of the years, over 250 members.

Don’s dedication to fly fishing brought him to assemble this club in order to bring interested saltwater fly anglers together to promote the sport, to gain and share knowledge, to freely exchange information between fly anglers, and most importantly, to have fun! Although our foundations are in saltwater fly fishing, we also take advantage of local fresh water fly fishing opportunities as well.
