Saturday Morning Fly Tying
Starting in early January and ending the last Saturday in March, we have Saturday morning fly-tying get-togethers. We are currently meeting in the Lewes Presbyterian Church hall in a downstairs room to the right of the main double doors next to the parking lot. All are welcome whether or not you tie flies – and especially if you’re looking to learn how. Coffee and donuts are on hand for those who wish to partake. It gets started at 9 AM and wraps up at about 11:30-ish. The inner doors to the hall are locked, so when you arrive, ring the bell to the right of the door and someone will come and open it.

The church’s address is 133 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958. The hall is behind the church.

Directions:

If you’re coming from the south using rte. 9 (Kings Highway) –

From Kings Highway when you get to where Kings Highway bears left off of rte. 9 and into town, stay on rte. 9 (the Lewes Bypass – it bends to the right). Continue to the traffic light at Monroe Ave. (about 3/10 of a mile) and turn left. Go 2 blocks to Kings Highway and turn right. Continue to Franklin Ave. (just past the church) and turn right then turn right into the parking lot.

If you’re coming from the north on rte. 1: Continue past the left turn for Savannah Road and proceed to the left turn for rte. 9 at the traffic light at the Wawa about 3/4 mile farther south and proceed as above.

Fly Tying Contest
There’s nothing quite like the thrill and excitement of catching a fish on a fly
you tied yourself or winning our Annual Fly-Tying Contest. Members can create their own saltwater fly and register for the contest at the December meeting of each year. The flies are judged on durability, creativity and fishability by other fly-tying members.

Don’t worry if you’ve never tied before; we will help you cover the basics. If you are interested in learning to tie your own flies, check out the link to our Winter Saturday Fly-Tying Sessions.

Annual Picnic
The second Saturday in May is the time for our Club Picnic. Cape Henlopen State Park is the place. Meeting about 8 AM at the beach pavilion by the fishing pier, coffee and donuts are the attraction. Many interesting, and of course true, fish stories get shared. Those who want to will climb down the trail to the beach and give a try at fly fishing. About noon, we all drive back to the Main Pavilion on the ocean side and enjoy a delicious spread of food. The Club provides the meat, burgers, dogs and hot sausages. Members bring side dishes. There’s usually more food than we can eat.

Annual Banquet
Each year the first Friday after New Years Day marks the start of our club’s year and the date for our Annual Banquet held at Lewes
Presbyterian Church on King’s Highway in Lewes This year after satiating ourselves on a catered dinner featuring roast beef and
mahi-mahi members enjoyed a presentation by a Delaware Bay and River pilot who enthralled us with many interesting stories. One of highlights of the evening is a fun raffle. Each dinner guest is invited
to bring a raffle prize. Prizes can be fishing related or not. Some recent prizes have been 6 packs of beer, bottles of wine, fleece
blankets, fly fishing books , etc. All the prizes are put on display, and then the drawing begins. When your ticket is drawn, you get to run to the front of the hall and grab a prize. A good time is had by all.
