Don's EZPolafibre Sandeel
Don's EZPolafibre Sandeel
A perfect sandeel simmulator is a strong attraction for most NE saltwater predators. A sandeel represents the most populated baitfish in the area. My pattern, a realistic sandeel clone features prevalent top and side colors, in addition to the irridescent side flash. The materials used provide excellent motion duplicating a swimming sandeel. The tapered head silhouette, and small eyes add attraction. An additional plus is that the rear braid unfurlings not only add motion, (or live action), but also prevent upper body materials from hook fouling.

Materials:

  • Hook: #2 Mustad
  • Thread: White size A
  • Body: EZ body tubing braid
  • Wing: Olive Polafibre over White Polafibre
  • Eyes: Stickon black/silver
  • Head: Epoxy 3/4 shank length
Steps:
  1. Wrap several turns of wht size A thd near hook eye. Cement.
  2. Thread EZ body tubing braid onto hook such that hook eye is about 1/4" away from braid. Length of braid about double shank length. Tie end with taper near hook eye.
  3. Cut a length of the rabbit skin approximately three times the length of the shank and tie it in about one-quarter of an inch behind the hook eye. Strip approximately one-quarter of an inch of the skin away from the tip of the tail for more action.
  4. Add wht Polafibre 3/16" Diameter (slightly longer than double hook shank), on top of Ez tubing. Tie in at head.
  5. Add overwing of olive Polafibre, slighly smaller in diameter and same length than wht wing. Tie in at head.
  6. Epoxy head 3/4 shank length after adding small stickon eyes.
  7. Using bodkin, unfurl braid from hook end to end of braid. Cut braid strands neatly at angle establishing a tapered rear appearance.
